Regular site updates
I’m one to talk! It’s one of those ‘do as I say, not as I do’ scenarios. The bottom line is - update regularly.
Establish or review what part of the site will be regularly updated (such as a blog or news page). Set schedule and format for updates, determine who will write and upload. Regular updates to your site suggest to the search engines that your site is ‘alive’ and relevant. A site that goes months without changes will fall off their radar as they are considered stale.
Some terrific content management systems I’ve worked with such as Wordpress, DotNetNuke or Joomla are quite user friendly and make it easy to update. So much so, in fact, that a novice could create a very crisp, professional site and make changes regularly with ease.
Consider interactivity – a blog allows for valuable feedback. Not only does this give you insight into whether you are writing what people want to read, but user-generated content empowers readers and influences the web and SEO.
With the right program and system in place, you can create a few blog entries at a time and manage their publishing dates so you can keep to the schedule you set for yourself.
