Press Release writing
The web is riddled with press release sites and how to tips. With so much information it’s hard to know the best way to present your release. Here are some simple rules of thumb:
1. Write a release about something newsworthy – new product, changing location, upcoming event or accomplishment etc. If you don’t have something that’s newsworthy and current, write an article instead.
2. Include all the pertinent details about your company and the people involved that relate to the event. Get a quote from someone involved in the project to lend authenticity to the copy.
3. Direct readers to your website where they can get further information.
4. For online releases, make sure that you use appropriate keywords (and do research to make sure you use keywords that are actually used by people). Include links where possible and if the anchor text (link) can be your keywords, so much the better.
5. Make sure the contact information is clear (do they call/email you, or your PR firm?)
6. Add pictures if possible and make sure there is a caption or alt text with each image.
7. Include your logo for brand awareness.
